Gala DinnerThe optional conference dinner will take place on Wednesday 10 September at the Gaudi Garraf Restaurant. (Link will open in a new window.) The restaurant is a short distance from the conference venue (coach transportation provided). The evening will begin in the beautiful surroundings of the terrace at the Gaudi Garraf with a welcome drinks reception followed by a locally inspired three course meal and local entertainment. The Gaudi Garraf Restaurant, located in this exclusive building, is the result of the initiative of the Granada family. A modernist building, created by Antonio Gaudi (1895-1901) combined with the varied haute cuisine, allows guests to enjoy a whole different dimension of tastes and sensations. This building was projected by both Antoni Gauidí i Cornet and his disciple Francesc Berenguer i Mestres, in 1895. The landowner, Count Eusebi Güell, originally commissioned Gaudí the construction of a hunting pavilion that was never built. Subsequently, Eusebi Güell decided to construct a wine cellar and its adjacent buildings, which allowed both Gaudí and Berenguer to have an opportunity to develop this project which evidences the superb imagination of these architects. The complex is an expression of Catalonian architectural Modernism and shows us some extremely original shapes, conceived in traditional materials such as stone and brick. It’s a construction that recreates the medieval style; the arches are parabolic instead of semicircular like those typical of Romanic times. The guardian’s house, that is part of the main entrance, has a magnificent gate made by entwined chains. Despite the unity in style of the entire compound, you can observe details of the personality of each architect. For instance, the chapel that has a style characteristic of Berenguer also contains Gaudian elements. The building was finished in 1901. The cost of the dinner per person is €55 + VAT @ 16% = €63.80.
